Yesterday I watched The Big Short for the millionth time.

If you haven’t watched it, you should, it’s great.

There’s one particular scene where Margot Robbie is explaining how credit default swaps work (a very boring subject) while sitting naked in a bathtub being served Champagne by a butler.

If you’ve seen the film you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

And it’s a perfect example of a hook.

It gets your attention and you want to keep looking so you’re obliged to listen.

This is exactly how good content works.

And exactly why most people never grow or go viral.

You see, everyone thinks the best way to get eyes on their content is by writing dry, informative, infodump posts.

Sure these used to work, but people have seen the format 101 million times so they’re simply bored, and not interested. That’s why you need to appeal to these three irresistible psychological triggers:

  • Sex
  • Health
  • Wealth

Take a wild guess at which one the Margot Robbie scene falls under…

So if you want your content to be noticed and read. You need to be triggering these in the reader.

That’s why Money X is such a big thing, the same with Fitness coaches or booty models on Instagram. They have someone people desire.

I’m not telling you to post your ass on X for money…

But do think about how you can trigger psychological signals in your reader.

And you’ll get far more engagement/followers/likes/etc on your posts.

That’s all for today,
Charlie
