Well hello there.

I know, I know. New look email.

Truth be told I’m doing some experimenting. My number 1 goal with these emails is to teach what I’ve learned and what I’m learning while I build my internet business.

So getting the format of these right is key.

With that in mind, I want to ask you a favour…

Shoot me a short message back with your thoughts on this edition, and whether you prefer it better to the more regular, shorter emails.

WITH THAT IN MIND…

Let’s talk experimentation.

There’s a ton of talk about what content is performing the best, and I think I have an answer.

I’ve been writing daily content on X for over 14 months now so I’ve seen trends come and go.

And I’ve experimented with pretty much every hook under the sun. I even wrote a few ChatGPT giveaways *shudder*

But one form of content continues to pump numbers week after week, with no sign of it stopping.

I’m talking about personal stories.

When I dive into my post data on X (which I’d recommend you do every month by the way), the main data point I’m looking at is profile clicks.

Why?

1) Profile clicks boost a post more than anything else
2) They are a direct indicator of which posts generated the most followers

I thought it would be simple platitudes etc. But it’s always personal stories.

And it’s not just limited to short snappy transformation posts.

The best content for follower (and fan) growth is personal story longforms.

My friend Parker is actually the GOAT at these, and pretty much everything I’ve learned about telling my own story, I’ve learned from him.

I mean… look at that face.

But on a more serious note, Parker has effectively weaponised personal stories to build a combined audience of nearly 60k people in just over a year.

Which is mental…

And now he’s started a community to help other people leverage the same skills to build their own brands.

The Society of Storytellers isn’t a cohort. It’s a membership club with:

  • Live events with storytelling experts and marketing minds
  • 100+ video courses to improve your storytelling skills.
  • Hot seats for thread reviews, story feedback, and workshop sessions
  • Access to all past and future recordings so you never miss a thing

When you’ve got Justin Welsh talking about it, you know it’s gonna be good.

Until the end of the week the first month is only $1. Bargain…

My 2024 smashing game plan:

It’s a new year and everyones excited to get cracking building their own internet biz.

But to really get the most out of your time, you need a game plan.

For me that plan is to go heavy on quality.

Most people say to write more, I think writing less is the answer.

As our lord and saviour Kieran Drew would say “when everyone zigs, you zag”.

And zag I will…

Less content clogging up your inbox, but far higher quality.

I’ll still send some emails in between newsletter editions, but far less, and only when I’ve got something really important to share.

I’m also going to cross post to other platforms.

Building a wider, more leveraged audience is critical when you’ve got platform risk. Although I’m bullish on X, its better to be safe than sorry. So I’m posting to Linkedin as well.

From what I’ve seen it’s crazy easy to grow over there so there’s really no downside. Just a bit more time spent each week posting content.

With that in mind.

I’m off to dig up my old longforms and re-use them on Linkedin.

So until next time,
Charlie
